Default New Dedicated Server Not Receiving Email

    Hello all...

    Big problem...

New Dedicated Server. I transferred all data from an old virtual hosting server.

I can send out perfectly fine from any of the 100 accounts on the server. I cannot receive.

When I sent a message TO one of the server accounts, this is the error message I received (several days later):

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

    admin@domain.net
    retry timeout exceeded

I ran a check on various domains on the server through DNS Stuff... just fine. Came back okay.

I used the option in cPanel to view the messages in queue. None. Even though there is about 100 in queue...

Any help you can offer will make you my hero for life. I'm pulling my hair out on this one. =(

    Thanks

    Nicole

Hi, here are some tips to help:

    1. Does your hostname resolve? Can the hostname be pinged? Do you have an A record set for the hostname?

    2. What errors are in /var/log/exim_mainlog ? "tail -f /var/log/exim_mainlog" and send a email then watch for the specific error.

    3. Make sure user nobody is not checked in tweek settings if you do not have phpsuexec/suexec installed.

    4. Un-check all options in the exim quick configuration to see if that helps.

    5. Post the error you are getting.

    Thanks for all the tips!
No error messages... just getting returned mail now whenever I send messages to any domain on the server. By the way, I'm sending from a VARIETY of servers to the cpanel server in question.

This looks like it's an error on the sender's part, but because EVERY person that tries to mail the server in question... I can only assume...

    Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 9): 550-nf-out-0910.google.com [xx.xx.xxx.xx] is currently not permitted to relay
550-through this server. Perhaps you have not logged into the pop/imap server
550-in the last 30 minutes or do not have SMTP Authentication turned on in your
    550 email client.

This most definitely sounds like a DNS issue... what's the domain?

    Default check on some items

you can check your domains dns setup using some basic online tools to help you trouble shoot this:

    dnsstuff.com
    dnsreport.com

these can help you narrow the margin of where to look.

as Lyttek said, sounds DNS related.

I have been round and round with virtually the exact same issue. Very intermittent for me. Rejects a message but if the same person sends it again, it goes through. See here for more info:

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Default Hello NicoleAnne...

" 550-through this server. Perhaps you have not logged into the pop/imap server
550-in the last 30 minutes or do not have SMTP Authentication turned on in your
    550 email client."

This error may also occur if your domains entry is not listed in /etc/localdomains so please confirm the same.

neo32 is right. Make sure the domain name exists in /etc/localdomains and removed from /etc/remotedomains

I have tried everything mentioned above. Also deleted locadomain and ran /scripts/updateuserdomains which recreated it and that did nothing. Nothing in remotedomains either.

In another thread (http://forums.cpanel.net/showthread.php?t=57029) someone discussed removing eximmailtrap which I did Friday. Now am just waiting to see if the problem goes away or not. It is very intermittent - and very frustrating!

    Try:

    #/scripts/eximup --force

Well, I opened a trouble ticket and had cPanel look at it. Unfortunately they weren't able to come up with anything. Running out of ideas...

    I FIXED MINE!

I tried everything I could think of and then on a whim I removed everything out of my exim.conf that had been manually added in the past - specifically the ACL section. With that removed, there have been no more false "relay" messages for the last couple of days!

So, I went back and recreated the ACL section from scratch (using http://www.webhostgear.com/175.html as a starting point). After that, things were back to normal.

I haven't touched exim.conf in a very, very long time so I figure a cPanel update might have messed things up. Anyway, hopefully this helps someone else.

Before everything you should check User Quota not exeeded.
