    Default Setting up email.

    Hi,

I have a problem with the email accounts .. All of it doesnt work when i try to check them on microsoft outlook .. i'm using a whm/cpanel on a VPS from godaddy. When ever, i try to "Send & Receive" emails, i'll be prompted for the user and pass. Even when i've entered the correct one, i'll still be prompted again. I believe its one of the settings in my whm/cpanel as i have no problems with the other email accounts that i'm using from a different shared host. Please advice. Thanks

    Regards,
    Derrick Goh

Sure, I'll try. It sounds to me like you used the auto configure option in cPanel. Don't bother.* IMO...

Create your account in your mail client manually. In cPanel where it says configure account you'll see the details at bottom of the page. mailserver username, incoming outgoing server details and other settings. Use those to setup your mail client.

The auto config for Outlook will not add the permanent details to the registry that you seek. Not sure how well it works with Outlook Express, but with Outlook, that feature is worthless.

(*the auto config for Outlook 2000 may work, but it will not work with Outlook 2003)

BTW, if using cPanel11, click the video tutorial. Might be of some use for you as well.

i didnt use the auto configure .. even when i try to access the web mail .. i received an error.

    Unknown user or password incorrect.
I've tried and created other mail accounts .. yet i'm still facing the same problem .. godaddy says they are not helping me with it as its out of their controls ..

Well last stop then, dump godaddy. You won't be the first, nor the last. In fact I think godaddy is required to assist. Might contact billingATcpanel.net to be sure about that though.

You tried and created other accounts (on this godaddy server) and they fail, or they DO indeed work? Not sure of what you said there. If they work, then I'd have to guess there's an issue of some sort with the user details you're wanting to use for this one account.

If you want, and I'm not sure they would, but it might not hurt to contact cPanel support and ask nice, give them login details to your cPanel account where this email is setup, and let the masters have a peek. Nothing to lose there.

    best of luck.

The thing is that i just got godaddy's vps and set it for a year .. haha .. hmm, all right .. i think that's a good idea .. but i read on cpanel support page that if the license is not bought from them, they wont be assisting with support for it?

The way support works, first you go to your cPanel License Provider if you went through a third party (such as GoDaddy). If you acquired your license directly from us, you just go straight to us (as we are your license provider).

However, if their support is of low quality or you're just not getting anywhere, let us know at billing@cpanel.net so we have documentation of the situation. If we get enough of these complaints from customers in our ticket system, we tend to follow-up with that third party asking them why they aren't supporting their customers.

Now, some companies do offer cheaper licenses if you sacrifice support. Do not rely on cPanel support because you don't want to pay for support from your own license provider. However, if you are entitled to support and you're hitting a proverbial brick wall, let us know and we'll handle things from there.
