    Default Unable to authenticate 435

Exim keeps saying that it is failing and restarting? But it does send mail?

Tried the fix below and it worked for around 10 minutes until it sent an email it seemed like then the emails from cpanel started coming again every 5 minutes...

    remove the directory exim

    cd /var/cpanel/serviceauth/
    rm -rf exim

    Restart Cpanel.
    /etc/rc.d/init.d/cpanel restart

Did not fix mine??? Anyone with ideas?

Can someone explain how cpanel monitoring works?
It seems like it's trying to connect to exim over smtp and authenticate.

the problem we have is that the authentication fails.

What are the authentication credentials that the service monitor is using and how does exim try to verify them?

We're not really using the exim server that comes with cpanel. We're using exim 4.69 compiled with the same features and configuration as the one that comes with cpanel but I'm wondering if cpanel has any other non standard patch applied to it's version.

chkservd (the service that monitors cPanel services) will monitor a service in 1 of 2 ways:

    - seeing if the process is running
    - connecting to a port, sending some data and receiving some expected data in return

For example, with Exim, it will attempt to connect to port 25 without any authentication credentials and then issue a QUIT command, and look for a string containing 220 during the connection. If this string is not found (or connection unsuccessful), the service will be detected as being down, automatically restarted and a notification email sent.

    from this thread: http://forums.cpanel.net/f43/exim-fa...ng-125805.html
it seems like the it actually tries to authenticate and fails.

And also, what is the string in the 220 response that it's looking for ? or is it actually looking for a 220 reponse code ? anyway it doesn't make any sense since the email notification clearly shows that IT IS trying to authenticate...
