Default Yahoo mail from my IP not allowed

I'm unable to send email to Yahoo accounts! This is a new VPS I setup and I'm just trying to send a single email to a yahoo account. I always getting back

Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

    novo_now@yahoo.com
SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
    host mta5.am0.yahoodns.net [67.195.103.233]: 553 Mail from 184.22.188.8 not allowed - [10]

------ This is a copy of the message, including all the headers. ------
I have not setup DKIM yet but shouldn't I be able to send mail to Yahoo even if it ends up in Junk?

This would need to be taken up with Yahoo. You would want to do so via this link:

553 Mail from x.x.x.x not allowed | Yahoo! Postmaster Help

At the bottom, it discusses how to retest your IP address:

    Tristan,

IMO, to a great extend, this is a problem with cPanel. Many of ours and many other users on this very forum's cPanel servers are blocked from sending mail to Yahoo purely since cPanel doesn't comply with Yahoo's requirements.

Look at the various posts on this forum, as well as places like WebHostingTalk and you'll see how many people have problems sending mail to Yahoo. I seriously doubt though that every cPanel owner is a spammer at the same time.

Why doesn't cpanel comply, no DKIM support?

Still trying to resolve this issue. My very first email to Yahoo returned this message.

The message in question is not being blocked due to DKIM from the report.

Next, I've not seen Yahoo actually block if you aren't using DKIM. DKIM isn't allowed to be used as a rejection tool for not having that support per the RFC. It isn't supposed to count against you if you don't have it, it only counts for you if you do. What this means is they would and do accept the email without DKIM, but they can place the email without DKIM into their junk or spam box for a provider.

For DKIM support, please note that this is available in 11.31, which would be released into 11.32 CURRENT shortly.

If you have WHM access, you can change to 11.31 for EDGE tier in WHM > Update Preferences area, although it appears you've listed website owner as your access level, which indicates you would not have that access.

If you do not have WHM access, then your hosting provider would need to perform that action. They likely would be unwilling to change to EDGE tier, so you'd need to discuss that with your hosting provider.

To a certain point this is true. I'm a bulk mailer using cpanel. I have over 300k email addresses I send to each day. Now that 11.32 is available we really can't blame cpanel.

A lot of things need to be done to get your rate limits lifted by yahoo, aol, and others.

    1. Make sure your server is not an open relay. Require all mail to authenticate via smtp before sending.
    2. Make sure you have Reverse DNS set by your host. Also called rDNS
    3. Make sure you are using a bulk mailing software with bulk mail headers when sending the exact same message to a few thousand people or more. Try phplist
    4. Make sure you have SPF records set CORRECTLY! Mess this up and your server won't accept your own mail.
    5. Make sure you have a virus scanner (ex. clam antivirus) that adds its headers to your outgoing messages. ISPs feel safer about inboxing when they detect them.
    6. Make sure you have privacy statements and abuse emails that can be easily found on your site. The ISPs usually will contact you long before you have a real problem with them if you've reported these links to the major postmasters.

^^^ Do all of the above and you'll be fine. Miss even one of these and I gaurantee you'll be deffered, spam boxed, or blocked.

If you are using domain keys... stop. AOL, Excite, and many others do not recognize it as yahoo deprecated it over 3 years ago. Domain keys won't hurt you... its just that it won't help either.

BTW feel free to sign up to my newsletter system if you like. You can always opt out later. Then you can examine the headers on the next blast (daily). I've done without DKIM and used cpanels old version of exim until just this morning. MyModelTalk Newsletter System

PS: Cpanel, i'm available for hire if you want me to field all these bulk mail/newsletter related questions. lol
