Default Account backup without email data, only structure/settings/passwords

Hello guys (and girls if any ),

I am looking for a way to be able to backup an account but exclude the email data from the archive but not the email accounts, passwords, or any settings each user has on his/her mail account.

It's not mandatory (actually it's not preferred at all :P ) for this to be done via WHM or cPanel.
It could be done with some bash scripting or whatever it's needed via SSH.

Any kind of solution that can give me a cpanel type backup with an 'easy to restore' process without the email accounts data but with the email accounts settings it's appreciated

Sorry if this question has been answered before. If that's the case please point me to the right direction

    Regards.

You can use the file in the root of the account named: cpbackup-exclude.conf and add the full path to directories you wish to be skipped during backups. There are several threads on the forums covering this topic, I think searching for that file name should get you there.

    Thank you for your reply!

This looks like the thing I am looking for.

Is it possible though to have the normal backup that runs everyday to do a whole account backup and another backup with the cpbackup-exclude options?

The whole point in what I am looking for is to minimize the time of restoring a specific account in case it needs restore.
That being said, I still wish to have a proper full backup of an account just in case.

I guess with some bash scripting I can do that from SSH so not really a problem there..

Where can I find more information about where and how cPanel stores the emails and folders of an email account?

If I exclude /home/user/mail/* will still keep any user settings, passwords etc or are those stored in mail/ folder?

    Thanks!

It's either one or the other I believe. I do agree though, with some sort of cron you maybe able to use that file on some days, have it disabled or renamed and out of use on others. I'm sorry I can't help more on that though.

As for email directories and other settings, that link I've posted above can be reused to find lots more for this sort of thing as well. For example.

    Good luck!

    Google lives on these forums.

    I meant to be sarcastic...

Google returns hundreds of irrelevant stuff to what I am looking for.
I thought this was a community forum for helping users with cPanel products, not a forum to make users even more frustrated when they are searching for something specific regarding cPanel/WHM.

    Thanks anyway

No need to thank me for trying to push you in the right direction if it wasn't helpful. For me the second result at the link I posted is to this thread:
    http://forums.cpanel.net/f43/email-a...on-190041.html

In that thread, #2 post by cPanelTristan states this:

Do you mean the email accounts aren't showing up as accounts in cPanel > Email Accounts area? If that's the case, did you have a backup of /home/user/etc folder? That folder contains the email users and their password and shadow files in it. Without it, the email accounts do not exist.
My intention was not to frustrate you, but to assist you a bit more in helping you find what you need, without assistance.

    That's what I asked.

Wouldn't be better for all of us if you just told me that instead of treating me with the standard 'Use google' approach?

There wouldn't be any need for this discussion, and everyone would be happy :P

    Just a thought.

    Thanks again

You'll find if you check, I very rarely suggest a user search without actually giving a link to that search. To be helpful.

If I treated you to anything it was not the standard "Use google" approach, more like the 'here's the answers you seek, all you need to do is read them' approach. Keep in mind there is no problem with your cPanel software here, you want to do something special.

    Everyone's not happy?

    You're very welcome!
