I know the aliases backup file (in the Backups module) gets downloaded and uploaded as aliases-domain.tld.gz but is that a tar-based gz or just a zip named gz? This may be a stupid question but I have been unable to re-compress it as a gz file and have it work when it is uploaded and restored.
I need to add a significant number of aliases and would like to just edit the file and re-upload it. I used ZipGenius and created a .gz file but when I restored it, it totally hoarked my aliases. I had to restore the previously saved, unedited version. My local pc is Win2K. Does ZipGenius not understand gz files correctly? Is there a windows-based gzip that works easily?
This seems like it should be easy - just edit the file, recompress it and upload. So what am I missing?
