Backup Configuration Files
hello, I was wondering if anyone could provide me more information on what this option does in WHM's bakup config:
Backup Configuration Files (not needed for account restoration) what does it back up exactly? how much size do these files take (im using incremental), and in what scenario will they be used if they're not needed for account restoration? thanks |

it backups configuration files...which may be important when restoring from server hack or reverting to them when you have accident (accidental delete)
it will generate the following: /backup/cpbackup/daily/dirs (weekly or monthly) (about 400KB) it depends on your system _etc_proftpd.tar.gz _etc_ssl.tar.gz _etc_valiases.tar.gz _etc_vdomainaliases.tar.gz _etc_vfilters.tar.gz _usr_local_cpanel_3rdparty_mailman _usr_local_frontpage.tar.gz _usr_share_ssl.tar.gz _var_cpanel.tar.gz _var_lib_rpm.tar.gz _var_log_bandwidth.tar.gz _var_named.tar.gz _var_spool_cron.tar.gz /backup/cpbackup/daily/files (weekly or monthly) (about 300MB in my case) it depends on your system _etc_exim.conf.gz _etc_exim.conf.local.gz _etc_exim.conf.localopts.gz _etc_fstab.gz _etc_group.gz _etc_httpd_conf_httpd.conf.gz _etc_ips.gz _etc_localdomains.gz _etc_my.cnf.gz _etc_named.conf.gz _etc_passwd.gz _etc_proftpd.conf.gz _etc_quota.conf.gz _etc_remotedomains.gz _etc_reservedips.gz _etc_rndc.conf.gz _etc_secondarymx.gz _etc_shadow.gz _etc_wwwacct.conf.gz _root_.my.cnf.gz _usr_local_apache_conf_httpd.conf.gz Regards, |

ok thanks for the info.
I disabled configuration files backup as I'm not going to be needing them. But a curious thing happened, my cpanel backup cron jobs ran but with a "backup up to date" message, I had to run them manually. why is that? what's the fix? Last edited by haxxor23; 11-10-2008 at 08:54 AM. |
