Backup questions in WHM

I want to back up database to my remote another server using FTP, is it doable?

Backup retention indicates how long the backups are retained for. Unchecking both weekly and monthly means you will only have that day's backups and that's it. Retaining backups for a week means you will essentially have last week's backup as well. Retaining monthly means you will essentially have a daily backup from last month as well.

FTP backups do not backup databases at this time. Local backups are much more robust since they backup server configurations as well as databases, neither of which are included when performing remote FTP backups.

What I setup and have been most happy with is daily (incremental and non-compressed) backups with weekly and monthly retentions... and I had a second hard disc put in the server just for the backups. Much better than ftp.

My Mysql database is about 700MB, after compress, it will be 250MB or so, if i select Backup Interval: daily and Backup Retention: weekly, does it mean My backups folder will be 250MB *7 =1750MB in size?

and whenever I want to restore it, I can choose any day in 7 days before that day ?

not quite... what you'll get is a snapshot once a week and once a day. You'll also get one once a month if you add monthly retention. So, 3 copies in all. You'll be able to go back in time to
a) last night, or
b) last sunday, or
c) the first of the month

Now, I'm paraphrasing a little. The weekly and monthly may not be sunday and the 1st, but it will be one per week and one per month.

If you want to conserve space and much processing time, you can use incremental (changed files only) backups, but you can't do that if you are ftp'ing off server. That's why I use two drives.

thanks a lot venton, you've made me very clear now.

I have a few website, one of them is a big forum, I want to backup all the folders except attachment folder, which is 80GB, and all the new attachment will be put in one folder, auto named, like ../attachment/0809/ means 2008 Sep folder, in Otc, it will created a 0810 for the new month.

So in this case, I don't really need to back up all the old files which will not be changed at all. To sum up, I need to backup all the other folders except attchment folder, I can back up the new month attchment manually.

Can WHM implement this kind of backup and use FTP to remote server?
