Thumbs down Better backup/restore functionality

cPanel should really think about updating the backup/restore function to something that is not such a resource hog, a bit more like R1Soft but only for cpanel. Something that connects to a backup server, performs backups fast and without bringing the server down or crashing it. Also allowing users to restore files/folders from backups, and have multiple points of restore.

Not asking for something out of this world, but the current backup/restore feature desperately needs serious improvements.

Do something.

Still hoping for a encrypted remote transmission out of the box. A encrypted filecontainer on the target would be another nice thing.

The resource usage seems to be harder to solve than implementing SSL FTP or SSH SCP.

Is somebody using R1Soft here and can compare resource usage.

11.24 will have a more optimized version of cpbackup & pkgacct (assuming it gets though QA before release)

Are we going to see just optimization for performance increase or better functionality overall, and added features.

Features needed:

Off-server backups
Incremental
Server restoration points
Better performance and speed

Some thing off the top of my head.

Well 11.24 doesn't seem to offer new features (e.g. secure remote storage via SSL oder SFTP). Change seems to be performance/load related only. Please correct me if I overlooked new features.

I would like to see usage of FTP SSL or SFTP for remote storage (like the transfer feature already offering) and a way to encrypt the backupfiles out of the box.

There are three types of backup software out there.
http://wiki.r1soft.com/x/aQEu

The main drivers of backup software performance are how they read data (files or blocks) and how they compute deltas (file attributes, checksums, or CDP).

* rsync is Legacy Backup Software

* rsync is File Based Backup Software

* The real problem with rsync performance and server load is the way rsync computes deltas or changed parts of files. It uses what is called a Check Sum Method of computing deltas optionally combined with File Attributes.

no server setting restore as well?

I was quite surprised that there is no server setting restore from the /cpbackup ? No reseller privileges restore as well?

Such an excellent web hosting control panel, is lacking in this?
