I would like to have the latest version.
A step by step would be awesome!
Thanks

You could just try:
Is there a reason you need to update rsync? I wouldn't suggest using a version higher than what yum provides.Code:yum update rsync

Thanks but that fails, I have the centos 4.8 on this server.
Is there a way to do from source?
Here is the yum error:
yum update rsync

I would also love to solve the mystery of how to upgrade rsync while ensuring it still plays well with the rest of WHM. I'm running Redhat Enterprise 5 on one server and CentOS 5.5 which both run rsync 2.6.8. I do a nightly backup and the server load gets so high my system is unresponsive for several minutes each evening... not good! Doing some research it seems rsync 3.x goes a long way to reduce the cpu load.
Anybody have any advice or a resource to turn to to do the installation? I found a few other threads on here all asking the same question.
You can download the latest version from the following link (matching your system):
Index of /rsync
And then you can update your current version via rpm -Uvh rpm-package
Hey, that's easy ;-). Thanks InterServed. That's just what I needed. Already making a huge difference using Rsync 3!
