Compressing Files and Folders

Is there any way to compress only selected folders rather than the entire home directory? I think it would be wise to backup only the folder that is "important" to me and not backing up then entire directory because there are some test installations in my home directory. Basically, I just wanted to compress the folder and download it to my PC. Is there any way to do this in CPanel? I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
