Failover cPanel Cluster

Are there any free or comercial solutions to support clustering of whole cPanel including home folders?
If no, what is best way to implement it?

I read an forum post from 2009 saying this won't be available until Cpanel 12 which was in development. However, I've not heard anything for Cpanel 12 since. I really hope this gets implemented.

The most biggest gran-glorious most massive limitation of cPanel relates to not allowing the seamless breakout of different services to other servers- most glaringly the lack of integrated separate mysql server support, separate mail server support and of course NAS.

CloudLinux may have contributed some to the improving high availability by constraining individual account usage, but without the ability to use network storage more efficiently it can be a real bear to to scale up cPanel hosting- which is why the C word has taken on such intense discussion lately (in some measure due to cPanel failing to develop their "App" with an eye toward scalability IMHO).

It seems to me that cPanel's philosophy is, "just buy more hardware," when the world is going a totally different direction (aka, you may have heard of that "Cloud" thing...).

So many of us are scratching our heads going, "Ok, I can't leave cPanel because it's what I love, but I need the scalability of the Cloud and FEWER not more servers to service..."

Personally, I don't necessary need to lemming off the Cloud services cliff, but what I do need is the ability to downsize my server farm, utilizing just a few appropriately powerful servers set cluster-like, so that I can scale my business, not drown in the fear of amperage overloads and the decay of excess hardware.

Yes, I spoke to the folks at cPanel face to face on this, and they said work on this likely will not begin on this subject until they finish the ipv6 implementation, which they say will make some of the above easier to implement as well-- so we wait...

Am I right in saying there is no solution on cloud systems that allows you to add multiple accounts easily?

It certainly looks like any HA/clustering done would have to be home-brew. I recently posted a similar question in another sub-forum and was met with crickets. I did receive a very helpful reply from a cpanel staff member when I sent a pre-sales inquiry about HA, either via load balancing or active/passive. I'm still looking at doing the home-brew thing, but in the meantime, maybe someone here has an opinion on this piece of the question I asked in the other forum:

Do people really stand up a single server or VM that houses customer sites and *mail* (and possibly DNS and sql if those haven't been spun off) and just cross their fingers that boxen don't die and that proc/RAM/network don't flatline up-and-to-the-right? Obviously, housing your vmdks on a SAN can mitigate some of this, but not the load balancing portion. Is there a good rule of thumb for domains-per-instance of WHM I can fall back to?

Some kind of clustering or the ability to have a cPanel account standby on a second server would be great.

It would be a ground up rewrite for Cpanel, so it's not going to happen any time soon.
