    Default FTP - put - Timeout

    Hi,

    I am trying to send a backup to my NAS hard drive at home but the FTP continues to fail.

    Here is the backup log emailed to me:

    Net::FTP>>> Net::FTP(2.77)
    Net::FTP>>> Exporter(5.63)
    Net::FTP>>> Net::Cmd(2.29)
    Net::FTP>>> IO::Socket::INET(1.29)
    Net::FTP>>> IO::Socket(1.29)
    Net::FTP>>> IO::Handle(1.25)
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)<<< 220 vsFTPd 2.0.7+ (ext.1) ready...
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)>>> USER username Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)<<< 331 Please specify the password.
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)>>> PASS ....
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)<<< 230 Login successful.
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)>>> TYPE I
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)<<< 200 Switching to Binary mode.
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)>>> CWD /serverbkp01 Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)<<< 250 Directory successfully changed.
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)>>> ALLO 5552194871 Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)<<< 202 ALLO command ignored.
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)>>> PASV
    Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000): Timeout at /usr/local/cpanel/bin/ftpput line 34 Net::FTP=GLOB(0x7880000)>>> QUIT
    Net::FTP: Unexpected EOF on command channel at /usr/local/cpanel/bin/ftpput line 35
    I manually tried to ftp into the box, and successfully did. But I was unable to ls directory contents:

    ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    Connected to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.
    220 vsFTPd 2.0.7+ (ext.1) ready...
    530 Please login with USER and PASS.
    530 Please login with USER and PASS.
    KERBEROS_V4 rejected as an authentication type
    Name (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:username): username01
    331 Please specify the password.
    Password:
    230 Login successful.
    Remote system type is UNIX.
    Using binary mode to transfer files.
    ftp> ls
    At 'ls', it just hangs for quite a while before timing out, as shown above.

    Any idea how to fix this?

    Thanks

    Just to add to the discussion, I have tried connecting to the NAS drive via ftp from WAN with success. I think we can safely eliminate my home network from the problem.

    OK, I figured out. The NAS drive only accepts connections in active mode. How can I configure the script to switch to active mode?

    I'm getting the same line. My backup successfully completes and shows up on my second server (NAS) so I'm not sure anything is really wrong with the transfer but I would like to figure out how to stop the Unexpected EOF.
