Index page showing up instead of homepage

Hi All.

Total cPanel newbie, so treat me gently please. And this thing is pretty cool so I don't want to get POd at it because of initial setup hardships so I'm trying to keep my cool.

Had a number of websites handed to me on a CD by my client and told "Ok. You're hosting these for us now."

Turns out they were cPanel sites (surprise!).

Managed to get it up and running on a CentOS VM with the help of the guys at cPanel - awesome crew, thanks guys! And managed to get the sites restored seemingly.

Now all I'm seeing when I get to the sites is an index page containing the cgi-bin folder, images folder, and postinfo.html.

Help!

Oh, btw, I'm also only at novice level with CentOS and Linux in general so please dumb down the OS stuff if possible.

Did you place the actual website content inside the public_html folder?

Hi David.

I didn't do anything manually. The sites were 'built' when I did the cPanel restore. I assumed the restore would put everything in the correct spots.

What's the full path to the public_html folder?

I actually found the folder at the root level, but there's nothing in it except for an empty cgi-bin folder.

Ah, I thought you were just migrating a "home made" backup, hence my inquiry. cPanel/WHM will restore everything to its proper locations from a full site backup.

For future reference, the full path to the public_html folder for a user is /home/user/public_html where user is the username for that cPanel account.

Hi again everyone.

Well, the restore process did put everything in the right spots. The challenge I'm facing now is figuring out how to get the web server or cPanel to actually take the browser to the correct place.

Can anyone shed some light on the process involved and the communication linkages going on when a web request comes in? I'm good on Windows, having been in the business for about 20 years, but I'm only marginally passable on Linux at this point. Although I'm hoping to improve that now that we've got a live cPanel implementation in play.
