1 user - many spamd processes overloading server

Strange problem.

Server became unresponsive, after a reboot I logged in and noticed 1 user with multiple spamd processes taking up a large amount of resources. Before the server could become overloaded again I suspended the account and killed the spamd processes - everything is back to normal.

I've looked at the account, customer has only 4 or 5 messages in total - spam assasin is enabled in their account.

I'm reluctant to enable their account in cas this happens again. What could be the cause ? Any suggestions on what my options are here ?

Turned out that the user was sending email between two accounts that had box trapper enabled - the box trapper messages were replying to each other causing a loop.
