535 Incorrect authentication data

One of our users email address is reporting this error in exim_mainlog

2005-09-11 04:06:56 fixed_login authenticator failed for (domain.com) [216.xxx.xxx.253]: 535 Incorrect authentication data (set_id=sales@domain.com)

I have tried absolutely every fix i found in the forums but we cannot get this issue resolved. We even deleted the users email address and recreated it. That didnt fix it. If you do a search in these forums, you will get 1 page of results. Please note i have tried every single fix posted even reinstalled exim 3 times. Nothing fixes this error.

What other solutions, not posted, will fix this error???

I have exactly the same problem here.

Strange it works if you dont authenticate with the username / password????

I hope this is because its using smtp after POP

I dont have pop before smtp set. Im starting to see other people having this issue. Im running S83. Anyone?

Im sorry but my understanding was that Stable was the way to go as Edge had way too many problems. So your saying current?

Hi,

If you're running /scripts/eximup --force then it probably isn't fixing the problem since the md5 checksum is failing after the script downloads the replacement RPM. You'll have to do this manually. Go to:

http://diff.cpanel.net/exim/4.52-15/

and wget the correct rpm for your distro; and install it with rpm -i --force
