    Default Add On Domain Problem

Im trying to add an add on domain to my account. I have had the addon domain before and
I removed it. Now everytime I try to add the addon domain I get the following error:

domain.com is owned by another user.

I have gone and removed this domain from the DNS zone in WHM and I still cannot add it. When I do a locate domain.com in SSH, I find it in the below directory:

    /var/cpanel/bandwidth/

However, when I try to remove it with the command line rm it is still there.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Sarah

I am having the same problem and have posted about it in another thread. I have not found a solution yet. My symptoms and description are exactly as yours.

This error occurs when addon is not added correctly and a entry is left somewhere :-
Check following files and remove the entry of the addon domain that u are not able to add :-
    /var/cpanel/users
    /var/named/ delete the domain.db file
    /etc/named.conf
    /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
    /etc/localdomains
    /etc/userdomains
    /etc/valiases/
    /etc/vdomainaliases

Any entry left in one of these files will not allow you to add the addon domain. After removing all entries it should be fine.

    Thanks Shekhar,

I searched those files and removed the domain name from them and it worked!

    Hi Guys,

After reviewing this topic and other topics about this same issue, I'm still experiencing problems creating an addon user. I have checked the files listing the previous post by Shekhar, but still no success. :-(

I have also grepped all files in the following directories:
    /var/*
    /etc/*

for any occurrence of my domain and removed the reference, but again no success.

    Any further suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

make sure that you have restarted httpd and named services before trying again. I had the same problem but doing so fixed it for me

Had to remove references to the addon domain in both

    /var/named/chroot/etc/named.conf

    and

    /etc/named.conf

    including

    /etc/named.conf,v

THEN restart the named service. THEN it finally worked correctly. This was after making certain the add on domain was removed from all the other places mentioned here :

    /var/cpanel/users/{removed from the user file for the addon domain}
    /var/named/
    /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
    /etc/localdomains
    /etc/userdomains
    /etc/valiases/
    /etc/vdomainaliases/

    as well as:

    /etc/vfilters/
    /etc/vfmail/
