    Default Adding RAID 1 (software)

    Hello,

One of our servers runs WHM 11.28.64, CENTOS 5.5 i686 standard and has a 80 GB IDE HDD (let's say /dev/hda).

We want to add a 250 GB SATA HDD to the system (80 GB is no longer available).
The new hard drive will have a 80 GB (/dev/sdxx) and a 170 GB (/dev/sdyy) partition.

We want to make a software RAID 1 (mirror) configuration, in order to mirror /dev/hda on /dev/sdxx.

    How can we do that?

    Best regards,

    Alex

Considering all of the changes and potential problems that can arise doing this I would not recommend doing so. Your best bet is to deploy two new 250GB drives in the existing system alongside the 80GB, RAID1 and setup CentOS/RHEL on them fresh, install cPanel, and then rsync your data over from the old drive.
