Exclamation Adding a second IP address not working

When I added a 2nd IP through web interface, it shows up in red when viewing with "Main >> IP Functions >> Show or Delete Current IP Addresses"

I'm not sure why, but it looks like Cpanel is trying to create a sub-interface called eth0:1 for the secondary address. For some reason the ipaliases service isn't creating the interface.

What is the Proper way to add the IP address as a secondary address on the Main interface?

I'm tryong to add this second IP so that I can Migrate the Cpanel server over to a different Subnet...

Is there an easy way to do this? What am I doing wrong?

The second IP i want to add is :

    216.xxx.197.18
    255.255.255.248
the new gateway after migration will be:
    216.xxx.197.17

this is my ifconfig -a: ( I used x to protect actual info)

    root@mailserver [~]# ifconfig -a

    cPanel/Enkompass Access Level

    Root Administrator

    Default

Go into your WHM Basic setup and make sure your Alternate Main Ethernet Device is set to eth1.

Then try to readd the ip.
