addon-domain/subdirectory goes to addon-domain.main-domain.com/subdirectory/ ?

I notice that if someone enters the URL:
www.addon-domain.com/subdirectory (without a trailing slash) they get redirected to addon-domain.main-domain.com/subdirectory/

Is there a way to make it so instead if they enter www.addon-domain.com/subdirectory they simply get www.addon-domain.com/subdirectory/

redirect permanent www.addon-domain.com/subdirectory www.addon-domain.com/subdirectory/

no, it not work for me...
it give me Internal Server Error

Also if it (could) work, how about the other directory (subdirectory1, subdirectory2, etc)???
Should we create make a redirect rule for all directory?
