As server admin, what things one has to do for server security and upgrades?(Please in a non techie words) i bought managed dedicated server but still want to know.

Hello,

As a Server Admin.

The tasks to be carried out are Non-ending:

1) Make your server more secure with firewalls.
2) See various tcpd wrappers.
3) Make sure you protect the server from Worms, RootKits so that the server is not compromised. See chkrootkit.org for details.
4) the RPMs updates and various Bug fixes and Patches. and other vulnerable modules. (openssl -> concentrate on it).
5) See the Regular WHM/cPanel updates.
5) Daily backups and faster restoration planning is most important.

Actually the list in infinite and u have to carry each and every task carefully. As u r dealing with a live server.

Always check out these Forums and Mailing lists.

Keep yourself updated.
