    Question Alternate FTP server?

i need to know whats a good alternate ftp server to use.

reason i ask is, proftpd is really slow...pureftp is alot faster and i'd like to use it if their's no really good alternate, the problem is i cant download files on my ftp when im using pureftp, and i tryed to edit the conf, but i only changed like 1 thing and that probably wasnt even a good try.

so if anyone knows how to fix my pureftp problem or maybe let me know what are some good alternate ftp servers to install.

    i appreciate any reply's...

You've only got the 2 options of FTP server to use with cPanel: proFTPD and PureFTP. I don't know why your proFTPD would be slow, ours runs just fine on all servers - it's an excelled FTP daemon.

Do you have your rDNS for your server setup correctly? That can often be a cause of very slow FTP connection problems.

thanks for reply'ing...see, well proftpd constantly takes forever to connect...i use dreamweaver to edit my site, so i use the ftp info through that most of the time, and it constantly says waiting for server and hangs, and when i use an ftp client it works just as slow...but pureftp connects quick...

and in the WHM it says that one of the cons of using proftpd is that it's slow, and one of the pros for using pureftp was that it connects quickly...which is what i experienced...so i didnt think it had anything to do with my server settings

    Fair enough.

the only reason I asked about rDNS is that there is an option to disable it in proFTPd that often speeds connections up no-end:

They don't appear as the setting is On by default. Simply put the following at the top (after the ServerName directive if you like) of /etc/proftpd.conf (the other parameter also speeds up login as cPanel proftpd does not use PAM authentication):
    Code:
    AuthPAM off
    UseReverseDNS off
