Any one update today RedHat ES 4?

Today i see about 40-50 updates in #up2date -u and i stop it...

Any one update redhat today? Does thise many updates dont compromise the system or cPanel?

Any opinions?

yes, I got the same list (appr.)
That is very strange. And we have a trouble, because one of update require new kernel-lib, but any kernel* is skiped in up2date, so we got trouble with bind, when part of lib was updated and part not.

That is a big uptade. Please, anyone confirn when we can do it widthout problem.

It's the RHEv4 upgrade to v4.4 - it's up to you when you want to upgrade, although most servers will do it automatically. There's a kernel upgrade too, which you'd need to do manually.

What is the easy way to do the kernel upgrade on cpanel servers ?

The same way you would do a kernel update through any server running RHEv4:

up2date -uif kernel

Or if you have a multi-CPU server:

up2date -uif kernel-smp

Then reboot. However, be aware that kernel upgrades can, on rare occassions, make your server unbootable, so you should always make sure you have a backup beforehand. If you're not confident in what you're doing with a kernel upgrade, read up on the subject indepth or ask your server provider to do it for you.

I run up2date -u but after download rpms up2date says

Unresolvable chain of dependencies:
dovecot 0.99.11-4.EL4 requires libmysqlclient.so.14
gcc-3.4.6-3 requires cpp = 3.4.6-3
ntsysv-1.3.13.4-1 requires chkconfig = 1.3.13.4


I dont know why, any sugestions?

Any one done thise update and dont have any problems with server or cPanel?

OK i reinstal after update cpp, gcc, chkconfig and add dovecot to pkgskiplist because its need mysql 4.1 and run up2date -u also with kernel, reboot server and seems to everything working OK.

Everything was ok, but evening bind was crazy...

After update do a backup /etc/named.conf and /var/named...

Else was ok and working ok...
