Any updates that change /etc/ips?

Are there any updates, scripts, etc. that would change the netmask on or otherwise mangle the /etc/ips file? The system in question had the subnet for the first additional ip change to what was supposed to be the last additional ip in the list.
This sounds random, but I've seen it more than once.
