    Default apache crazy, please help!

    Apache at most of the peak times uses 99.9% of the CPU, and I havn't been able to find out whats wrong. We have many sites that receives a lot of hits using mySQL and php. mySQL also uses a lot at most of the time, but its still less compared to apache.

    --------- APACHE STATS ----------- ( not heavy time )

    Server Version: Apache/1.3.31 (Unix) mod_gzip/1.3.26.1a mod_auth_passthrough/1.8 mod_log_bytes/1.2 mod_bwlimited/1.4 PHP/4.3.8 FrontPage/5.0.2.2634a
    Server Built: Jul 23 2004 13:26:58

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Current Time: Saturday, 24-Jul-2004 03:21:41 GMT
    Restart Time: Friday, 23-Jul-2004 15:12:05 GMT
    Parent Server Generation: 36
    Server uptime: 12 hours 9 minutes 36 seconds
    Total accesses: 715990 - Total Traffic: 1.9 GB
    CPU Usage: u70.09 s10.83 cu.29 cs.07 - .186% CPU load
    16.4 requests/sec - 45.0 kB/second - 2816 B/request
    5 requests currently being processed, 40 idle servers

    ===================================================

    Do you think anything is wrong ?

    I have set maxclients to 250, startservers to 6, minspareservers 25, maxspareservers 60, keepalive off ...

    And also, mySQL used 786 MB of memory according to WHM and its happening since last some days ... How can i find out which is using most of the mysql memory, I can't really keep track of which site is doing this.

    Thanks

    Hello,
    Check your "apache logs" then see what is the problem
    I would recommend you to get the detail report of apache usage.
    Here is code you need to add in httpd.conf file to check the server status:
    Location /server-status>
    SetHandler server-status
    Order deny,allow Deny from all
    Allow from <.example.com>
    </Location>

    In the place of .example.com try your domain name.
    In browser http://yourdomain.com/server-status
    See what it show!!
    Sometime I played a trick with this but don't do this :
    I have reduced my Maxclient number to some 160 and saw that some domaions are creating too much httpd requests.Then I went ahead.. But don't do this ...
    Hope this help !!

    I have found that a site gets much hits but thats not a very big issue.

    It uses 70 gb transfer / month with a forum, but now why can't a 2.4 ghz handle that ..

    I have checked the server-status and thats where i found the info i posted ago. Nothing special there, all normal stuff..

    too much TIME_WAIT's are coming in apache, dunno whats causing that.

    Thanks for the reply anyway..
