Default Apache, flood of 'OPTIONS' requests from localhost

    Hi all,

On my cPanel server Apache is being bombarded with requests:

    127.0.0.1 - - [01/Dec/2009:14:45:25 -0500] "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0" 200 -
    127.0.0.1 - - [01/Dec/2009:14:45:26 -0500] "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0" 200 -
    127.0.0.1 - - [01/Dec/2009:14:45:27 -0500] "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0" 200 -
    127.0.0.1 - - [01/Dec/2009:14:45:29 -0500] "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0" 200 -
    127.0.0.1 - - [01/Dec/2009:14:45:31 -0500] "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0" 200 -

As you can imagine, I reach MaxClients within a couple of minutes, and the web server becomes useless.

Any idea what could be doing this please? Obviously it's something on the local machine generating them,

Thank you, yes, I've been looking at that thread (and the links on it).

It seems a bit excessive to be checking every second... is there a way I can change the rate, or turn it off completely. While I can't be certain that this is the cause of the high load, it'd be nice to be able to eliminate it from the possibilities

    Question

Hi Womble (have you been to Wimbledon Common lately?)

I am just curious as to why you started a new topic/thread when as you say, "Thank you, yes, I've been looking at that thread (and the links on it)." ?

No biggie, it's just that now I have had to subscribe to this topic as well as the other one to catch any replies.

    Cheers.

Sorry, maybe I should have just resuscitated that thread rather than start a new one. On the other hand, I didn't want to hijack the OP's thread. Still, if any mods want to close this thread or merge it, feel free (not that you need my permission)
