there are certain people i correspond with using an email that also makes use of an auto-reponse message.
how can i disable the auto-response message for certain email addresses, but still have it work correctly with everyone else?

AFAIK, the autoresponder mechanism that cPanel uses cannot be configured to do so. You could probably work around it either by simply giving them a different email addressOther than that, you may need to look for an alternative autoresponder script that you can use to pipe email through.
Btw, that first idea wasn't meant to be flippant, you can do this relatively simply by changing your main account to being something obscure, e.g. user1@yourdomain.com and setup the autoresponder email address to forward email received to that POP3 account, then give out user1@yourdomain.com only to those people you want to be able to skip over the autoresponder.
