Default backing up extremely large accounts

I'm sure others have had this problem that cpanel backups from server -> remote server are almost impossible using cpanel's features for backing up when the account is rather large in disk space useage.

The easiest way I've found to copy accounts accross is to make a tar of the /acctdir and rsync it accross (of course this only works if you have enough space!)
This worked fine for me with a 84 gig site.

Are there any better methods? or is this it?

The alternative is to perform just a daily full cPanel backup locally and then rsync or ftp the results off-server afterwards. Then you at least have the benefit of the correct structure for the archive for a cPanel restore.
