    Default Backup email

    Hello,

I am in the middle of moving servers. On server 1, I have a domain and an addon domain. On server 2, each domain has a separate cPanel account [I have root access to server 2, including whm].

If I copy over /home/domain1/mail/domain2 on server 1 to /home/domain2/mail on server2, would that work for backing up the emails?

Is there a way to copy over the logins as well?

    Thank You,
    itzhero

If I were you....Since you do not have root access to the server that the accounts are currently on, surely you have cPanel access, so I would do a cPanel backup and then copy that to the new server. put the .gz file /root or /home on the new server. Go to WHM on the new server Main >> Backup >> Restore a Full Backup/cpmove file and type in the username, then it will unarchive the file with all the emails, domains and logins ;-)

I could do that, but I'd like the domains to have separate accounts.

I have jailed ssh access to server 1. Can I somehow manually pull it out of the full backup?

So are the other domains "Add on Domains"?

    Yes, that's correct.

Sorry I did not realize at first that those accounts on the old server were "add on" domains under cPanel. WHM treats those as parked domains and they do not neccessarily have to have 8 character usernames. I am sure you could create the domain in the new system and rsync the public_html over and restore DB's but I do not know how you could xfer the mail over.

    Good luck with this!!

This is where I am stuck. I can transfer everything else over easily. I'm just wondering if this method that I posted in the initial post would work.

I guess you could always try one as a test and see if it works. I have some customers that set up their reseller accounts that way because I they not ever look at WHM but we have not tried to convert them over as you are doing.
