Default backup mail server catching all mail & bouncing with no such user here

Ok, So here is my delima:

I have a server that I use as a backup e-mail server for a few of my really important customers. I have the backup e-mail server setup as priority 50 in the mx records, and the server they are being hosted on as number 10.

However, a ton of mail is getting stuck in the backup mailserver mail queue with the ":fail: no such user here".

    So my two questions are:

    1. Why is mail even going to this server if the mx record priority 0 is set to their primary mail server.

    and

    2. How I can I prevent my secondary mailserver from getting the bounces for the no such mail user here, which I know the primary server is giving.

I guess if I can fix number 1 then I don't really have to worry about number 2 here....
