Default Backup mysql dir than mysqldump

    Hello all,

I would like to ask if there is any problem by copying the whole mysql directory insteed of getting backups via mysqldump.

I'm asking that as I am using a rsync script to get backups and it's easier than having another script to get mysqldumps (+load) and then rsyncing them.

    Prons and cons?

    Thanks

    Hi,

When restoring the backup (mysql directory), the mysql version should be the same as before.

If any databases are using InnoDB tables, you will not get a proper backup using that method unless the MySQL process is shut down.
