Default bandmin runs IPTABLES and increases Load

    Server
    RH Linux 7.2
    Apache 1.3.26
    CPanel 4.0.9-50

I have noticed that after rebooting my server, bandmin seems to start IPTABLES and a PID runs for IPTABLES and drives the load average very high (about 2.0 to 3.0) and it seems to never come down. Normal load is less than 1.0 on this server.

I copied &bandminstart& to backup and removed &bandminstart& and then killed the previous PIDs and the load average comes down. But, when I copy bandminstart back in and reboot, the same thing happens.

Additionally, CPanel emails me the following message....

    To: root@ns.myservername.net
    Subject: Cron &root@ns& /usr/local/bandmin/bandmin

It is your first reboot after putting a new kernel in?

Sounds like someone forgot to compile in iptables or forgot to compile and insmod the modules.

Hope this sheds some light on it (though im not sure why you get such high load).

It is a fairly new server, but we didn't recompile the kernel. It compiled when we installed RH 7.2.

    Anyway, this is helpful. Thanks.

I would upgrade the kernel. There are security issues with the older kernels anyway.
