Can't get into WHM and Possible Hard Drive Failure Soon

Yesterday, I've received this email :
Subject : Possible Hard Drive Failure Soon
Body : S.M.A.R.T Errors on /dev/hda
From Command: /usr/sbin/smartctl -q errorsonly -H -l selftest -l error /dev/hda
ATA Error Count: 149 (device log contains only the most recent five errors)
Error 149 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 40 hours
Error 148 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 40 hours
Error 147 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 40 hours
Error 146 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 40 hours
Error 145 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 40 hours
----END /dev/hda--


So I tried to connect to WHM and it doesn't work with my root password. Same problem with SSH.

What can I do ?

If you are not able to login, you will have to contact your datacenter for that, who can reset the password for you from the single user mode.

And to prevent those smartcheck warnings, do the following :-
touch /var/cpanel/disablesmartcheck

About the harddisk, it's not important? I am a bit afraid with this warning.

That means your HD is failing and you need to replace it ASAP, before it is too late.

Your drive might already be dying. We had a similiar problem about a month ago. EVERYTHING was running fine but we couldnt authenticate on pop3 pulls and something in Frontpage. I went into the shop and saw thousands of hard errors on drive reads scrolling on the screen of the machine. We couldnt get control of the machine and upon booting it could not get past the startup without hanging. Even trying to FSCK the drive produced so many errors the drive was unusable. HOWEVER the system was up and running all night even though it was dying.

Did you make recent backups and are they on a different drive ?. See if you can get the datacenter to look at the systems console and see if they are pulling any errors from the hard drive.

Not necessarily. It certainly can mean that. But it can also be a false-positive. See the thread Shekhar linked to for more information.
