[case 45920] WebDisk SSL Mac Version Not Connecting

cPanel accounts on our server are able to download the SSL WebDisk script. They can install it, run it, continue past the certificate notice, and enter their name and password. After that it becomes stuck on "connecting" perpetually.

Ports 2077 and 2088 have been opened on the server firewall. We have even tried opening them on the client-side router firewall. Neither make a difference. Normal (not SSL) WebDisk does appear to work on Macs. Does anyone know a possible solution?

I am having the same exact issue. With the latest version of cPanel/WHM, I can connect fine to the web disk (over SSL) via a client like CyberDuck or even directly through a web browser, but when I try to connect to the web disk over SSL via Mac OS X 10.6.4's Finder I have the same issue as the user above. I have not yet tried with the recently released OS X 10.6.5. I think the issue may be limited to Mac's Finder.

Are either of you using self-signed SSL certificates for the Web Disk (cpdavd) service?

I have commercial SSL certificates installed for the domains on which I use the web disks. I think that WHM/cPanel may also be using self-signed certificates for the web disk (not sure, but appears so when accessing it from web browser at the proper secured port). But if this is true, why would there be a certificate conflict with the new cpdavd version and not the older one?

Same here. Using commercial SSL certs for the domains. Should we register one for the service? Still not working for me.

Mac WebDAV is a bit finicky about ssl certificates.

The best way to get this working it to make sure you have a trusted signed certificate installed and then manually connect using:

Find => Go =>Connect to Server => https://HOSTNAME_OF_CERT_HERE:2078 => Connect

This is what I have been doing to connect, but without any other changes to my SSL certificates or anything else, when I upgrade to the latest version of cPanel/WHM I have this issue, so I'm pretty certain it's something having to do with the latest cPanel release.

Many computers in my organization use our Web Disk and I'd prefer not to have to install our certificates on every single one.

I changed all the service SSL certificates in WHM to my third-part cert (a wildcard cert). Everything was working fine up until STABLE pushed the 11.28 update for WHM/cPanel. Now I am having the same problem I originally posted about.

The certificates are installed locally and I tried connecting using the instructions posted above (via Go --> Connect to Server --> https://domain.org:2078 but I'm getting the same issue.

Has there been any update on this issue?

We are continuing to examine the matter to determine the cause of the issue. Our efforts have been hampered by an inability to reliably reproduce the problem. We urge anyone that can reliably reproduce the matter to open a support ticket on this. Thank you.

I am not super tech savvy, but I am encountering this same problem. Thank god - I thought I was just doing something terribly wrong. Any fix yet? What alternatives are there to this problem?

We believe this is a problem with the ssl or socket library on certain version of Mac OS X. If the unauthorized response was split across multiple ssl packets, Finder/webdevfs would fail to handle it properly. We have adjusted our code so that the unauthorized response is now sent in a single ssl packet.

This change has been backmerged to 11.28 and it should be published in an upcoming build.

Hi, Just wanted a quick clarification. I'm having an issue using the Mac secure WebDisk download, but I am using a self-signed certificate on our WHM. Is it required that we use a commercial certificate to make this work?

Currently using: WHM 11.28.77

Nick, Kenneth and David... I just wanted to thank you for your work on this issue. I am happy to report that a customer of mine that was trying to use WebDisk on a Mac, but couldn't... is now successfully using it... after we upgraded to 11.28.83.
