    Default CGI Counter problem

I used cPanel to make the HTML and pasted it to my web page. The counter shows on my NVu editing page. No problem so far...

When I upload the page and view it in my IE browser, I get an error message in the counter box:

Counter datafile"/var/cpanel/Counters/username.dat%....blah...CddA" must be created in Cpanel First!

Is there supposed to be a file called Count.cgi for the data file? Is it supposed to be loaded by cPanel, or do I create it myself? This is where I'm seriously lost.

There is nothing in the (s)cgi-bin directory called "count" or ".dat", just other non counter related cgi files.

I went ahead and created files in both CGI and SCGI directories. "username.dat" and "count.cgi" and simply put a zero in them thinking this is supposed to be where the counting is performed. How wrong am I?

Does enabling CGI-Wrapper and creating a SCGI-bin folder have any infuence on this process?

If there is supposed to be a counter datafile at /var/cpanel/counters/username.dat, how do I do that?

BTW, I did use my admin name, not "username"...

Thanks, my head hurts.... brain freeze.

For anyone else who had this problem, replace the '%7C' in your img src for the counter graphic, with the '|' (pipe) character.

This is EXACTLY the problem I am currently having. I am a new user to cPanel, and working through this problem noticed that my html editor was replacing the pipe with %7C. No matter what I have tried, I can't get it to save with the pipe and not the %7C. I am using Netscape Composer. Any ideas.

Default Edit the page in a text editor?

Why not simply edit your html in a text editor?

    Hi,

    I resolved it by myself.

I modified httpd.conf on the domain that is having a problem.
    Some information was wrong.

counters don't seem to work after updating to 10.6.0-R55

I see that Count.cgi was updated by the file date when cpanel upgraded, but since then I get a broken link in place of the counter.

    Any suggestions?
