    Default change IP for exim/SMTP

    Hello!

If I change the IP for my main domain including the hostname, will this
also change the IP for exim from where it send out mail ?

My server is listed on a RBL list. Just one, I have checked other
big lists but is not listed there.
I have contacted the ones who has the RBL, mail-abuse.com, and asked
to be removed from it but it seems they are pretty slow over there.

Anyway - I was thinking on changing the IP so the mail being sent from
this server does from a new IP not listed on this RBL.

Any suggestions on doing this without screw things up ?

    Thanks!!

Exim will, by default, use the IP address of the hostname, i.e. the first IP address bound to your ethernet device (usually eth0).

If you did get on an RBL, did you find out why and how?

You can configure exim to send on a different IP address. Can't remember the directive off the top of my head, but it's been mentioned before and you can find it with a little bit of work over on http://www.exim.org (the word interface comes to mind).

    Great, I'll check it out.

Yes, fishing spamm from my server was sent out.
It's user nobody and I have no idea from where it came.
Guess it's a portal with mailplugin being used - happened before
on another server. I know 99.5% it's not one of my clients.

to bad I can't see from which account or catalog it was sent.
I thought the x-source header would have something but it was blank
in the "example" mail I got from the RBL admins. Maybe they erased it.
Need to shut those plugins down - guess I just could locate the filenames.

Mailman is not running as nobody is he ?
I mean in the logs ?

Did they supply you with the full headers including the message ID? maybe you could grep for that? (as long as your logs from the time of the spam are kept..)

Ok, where should I grep it from ?

Please be so kind to show an example :-)

Also - does anyone know if sendmail uses exim to send mail.
If I change the exim IP will this affect sendmail also ?
Cause I guess nobody & php scripts usally use sendmail, right !?
