    Default Changelog Gripe

    Just for grins, I ran UPCP this morning. Even though the version I had compared to what was listen in the changelog, that I was actually ahead.

    Anyway, I am now up to build 113, but the latest changelog entry that actually has anything listed in it was 97. 98 and 99 are listed in there but are empty adn nothing about anything beyond that.

    The changelog was always a little on the weak side, but can't we keep this a little up to daye? Its about the only way we have of keeping track what was done!

    Entries like:
    =========================================
    9.5.0 (build 18) Sat Aug 7 22:54:24 2004

    resolve internal ticket 35871
    =========================================

    Do not help much either.

    Entries like;

    ========================================
    9.9.0 (build 58) Thu Sep 30 00:44:16 2004

    ========================================

    help even less.

    It is bad enough that the docs are outdated. Please maintain a useful changelog!

    Yup, it really annoys me that the version number changes and there's no detail about why. If there's no detail because it's a security update, just put that it is a security update, otherwise there's no reason to note give a description of all the changes - it's just laziness, sorry, and very unhelpful.

    Maybe someone should log a bugzilla entry about the changelog

    We'd probably end up seeing....

    ========================================
    9.9.xxx (build xx) Thu Sep 30 00:44:16 2004

    Fixed something that wasn't broke.

    A little more info about the changes would be nice. I do manual edge updates every week or 2, whenever I feel it's time based on the changes.

    Just when I though blank entries were as bad as it could get:

    Here is the latest Linux release information:

    STABLE
    9.4.1-STABLE_65
    (Wed Jun 30 11:22:21 2004)

    RELEASE
    9.7.7-RELEASE_15
    (Wed Sep 1 20:45:12 2004)

    CURRENT
    9.9.0-CURRENT_80
    (Tue Oct 5 21:55:09 2004)

    EDGE
    9.9.0-EDGE_79
    (Tue Oct 5 21:35:12 2004)

    Here is the most recent changelog entry:

    ========================================
    9.9.0 (build 78) Tue Oct 5 21:13:49 2004

    more service manager fixes
    ========================================

    I guess that the only thing worse than nondescriptive or empty changelog entries are nonexistent changelog entries.

    Come on cPanel! I would very much appreciate access to a credible changelog.

    Same here. I also hate it when you upgrade and find a version installing 2 or 3 releases ahead of the changelog. Hmm, wonder what updates I just installed?
