Changing dns to something other then bind? powerdns?

I hate bind, and it's starting to be a pain with 50k cPanel domains.

Has anyone out there wrote their own backend scripts to work with something like pdns, or something more mysql-ish backend

NSD is the only other option supported by Cpanel and I really wouldn't recommend it if you are actually running 50,000+ domains.
