Changing password in Cpanel does not change the password for FTP

The user changed his password, using CPanel. The password was changed in CPanel, but he is still able to login via FTP, using the old password. The new password does not not work for FTP.

The password is successfully changed for mysql and ssh.

How to fix?

WHM 11.15.0 cPanel 11.18.3-S21703. Using proftpd as FTP-server.

What is the output in WHM when the password is changed? For example:

The password for locked has been changed.

Changing password for locked
Password for locked has been changed
Updating ftp passwords for locked
Ftp password files updated.
Ftp vhost passwords synced


The following service passwords were changed: system , ftp , mail , mySQL , postgresql , FrontPage.

Error log is empty.

What is the output in WHM when the password is changed?

Can't remember exact wording but it was what I expected it to be i.e. that it had been accepted and changed. Eventually changed it successfully with passwd in SSH.



Realise the above not helpful so just tried re-changing password.

This bug seems to be there for a very long time (I can see it on at least 3 of my servers). Is there any update on this?

Try to manually update with /scripts/ftpupdate

Yeah, that's what we've been doing for the last several months...

Yes same here, some clients are reseting cpanel passwds and then they cant access ftp.
How can we solve this?

1. What is your full cPanel version number?

2. Are the account passwords being change from:
a. WHM?
b. cPanel?
c. both?

3. Which cPanel theme is being used?

Im having same problem...tried syncronizing ftp passwds, recreating account and still doesnt work...any update on this issue? I have a client with this problem for about 2 or 3 months...and cant access ftp.
Its ridiculous...
