Default Character encoding strangeness for file names to be downloaded.

    I am stumpted.

    Currently running:
    WHM 11.23.2 cPanel 11.23.4-R26138
    REDHAT Enterprise 5.2 i686 on standard - WHM X v3.1.0

We moved a hosted account from an older server to a newer one. But now, here's what the customer says:

    ----------------------------------
This problem has been going on since the changing of servers. Before the change I did not have this problem, since then I have noticed the problem.
For example in the following directory

    http://www.(his URL was here).com/etc. etc.

    Insuficiencia Cardiaca.ppt
    Fiebre Reumática.ppt
    Estenosis Mitral.ppt
    Insuficiencia Mitral.ppt
    Estenosis Aórtica.ppt
    Insuficiencia Aórtica.ppt

The files with accent marks, ie file 2, 5, and 6, do not download properly.

Normally to download them I will right click on the file link and choose "save file as", then I choose the folder and download it. A file does download but there is no content in it. For example if I open up the file in power point only one slides appears and it is blank.
    ----------------------------------

Note, we host mostly English language sites.

I think this probably has something to do with the character encoding differences between the old server and the new, but I am unable to determine how to future troubleshoot this.

    Default

In case this helps for someone else with this issue; I figured out that I will need to run this via ssh, for each directory with such files:

    convmv --notest --replace -r -f latin1 -t utf-8 *
