Complete Hosting Server Upgrade Migration Questions

Hi everyone,

I am upgrading a Cpanel 9 server to another Cpanel 9 server which has a different IP and dual procs.

What is the best method to move everything with little or no downtime?

Obviously I have full root access to the server, WHM etc.

I have read conflicting instructions i.e. go into each cpanel account and backup, then move.

I am wondering if i can use the copy account feature in WHM to copy them all? Will this copy everything including Database/email/access_logs etc

Will this copy/move the DNS zones? - If not, can i just go into var/named and copy *.db over to the new server.

My migration plan for DNS at the moment is :

1. Reduce TTL on domains to 5 minutes
2. Wait 24 hours
3. Copy data to new server (Method to be determined)
4. Change DNS records to IP of new server


Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You should use the transfer multiple accounts feature within WHM. This will copy everything and correctly configure the dns zone too.

But dont forget the Horde DB! Otherwise your customer loose their setup and datas from Horde...

But I would work with multiple instances of the "transfer multiple accounts script" - it's much much faster!

And yes don't forget the horde db .. but you will always have some troubles (i.e subdomains for addon domains)

if you set up server clustering you can also set up the dns on the old server to update as soon as the transfer of a domain is done saving you some time to do this manually.

It will write the new IP on the new server into the dns files of the old server and everything will work great and all you have to do then is change the nameserver IP's to the new server at the registry and all is fine.
