Default confuse with php as CGI or DSO

when i try to run php as cgi i do not get PHP-CGI/0.1b as the server software while doing a phpinfo, what does PHP-CGI/0.1b really means.

does compiling php with cgi support but then running it as a dso will slow it down?

i'm very confused as currently i'm runinng php at my vps which is serving one website only.. i my priority would be speed without compromising security as i'm running an ecommerce site, so does running php as a DSO really be a big security flaw asi've read about the php being run under user "nobody" and thats bad..

thanks for help and advice from experts.

Ideally you should compile Apache/PHP with suPHP and then run PHP under suPHP instead of DSO or CGI - it's most secure.

If you need help getting this done, contact me and I"ll give you a hand.
