    Exclamation consideration about phpsuexec

I am considering to install phpsuexec on my box ..
the idea to have php scripts running with user id is cool.

    but...

I have seen that phpsuexec is only an un-supported patch written by a man owner of http://www.localhost.nl/patches .

Ok supposing that now phpsuexec is working fine with php 4.3.x , what will happen with future versions
of php ? Will we have to depend only on http://www.localhost.nl/patches ?
I cannot find php suexec references on apache.org or on php.net . As it seems all servers running phpsuexec depends on the man owner of http://www.localhost.nl .

What will happen with php 5.x ? phpsuxec will continue to work fine , http://www.localhost.nl will release a new patch soon ?

In this case is not better to continue to use "php safe mode on" or "open_base dir" which are fully and strongly supported by php.net ?

It depends on how bad you want PHP to run as that user. I don't use phpsuexec purely because it thus has to run in CGI mode, slower and in its own way, more insecure.

    More insecure how is that?

I've only found it to be more secure.

If you have a box with a hand full of customers you don't need it, but when a powerful box has hundreds of customers on it, phpsuexec helps A LOT on finding users that monopolize the server and such..

So few people are interested to discuss php suexec ?
Remember if you have phpsuxec you are running an unsupported patch on your box . It could work
great now , but it's always an unsupported patch , and it could not work fine with the next php releases.
Anyone interested to discuss it ?

    Let see....

For a Very high loaded VB Board (php)... like 300 online users.

What configuration do you think it's best (I mean FASTER) ?

    1) PHP as a module or PHPSUEXEC ?
    2) MySQL as a module or SYSTEM MYSQL ?

Also, if you have any other idea on how to lower the load on a situation like this ... let me know

    Thanks.

Sorry Cas , but you reply is Off Topic . We are discussing if phpsuexec is a good idea to install on a box , considering it's unsupported .

(However regarding your question I have no idea)

    Oh sorry...

well... anyway, if you consider to install it or not ...
you need to consider the speed ...

is phpsuexec FASTER or SLOWER than normal Mod Php ?

    Regards.

It's a good question for another thread

(did you try to ask these questions to the author's phpsuexec ?

    Author wrote ...
I run these patches in big production environments. I would like to know your opinion about these patches. You can report problems to johan@localhost.nl.
More patches and apps will follow.. )
