Considerations Before Reactivating Updates and "VPS Optimized" Edition Question

Hi All,

I have an cPanel server that has had updates set to MANUAL for an indefinite period of time. It's not known when the updates where run last. The version showing is WHM 11.23.0 cPanel 11.23.3-R25133

I've been instructed to turn updates back on, but since I don't know how long they've been off for, I'm leery to do so without asking for feedback first. According to the version #, it doesn't look as if it's all that far out of date and we would be setting it to STABLE when we turned it back on.

Does anyone see any red flags before we do this?

I have an additional question. I saw another cPanel server the other day on a dedicated server, but the edition was the "VPS Optimized" edition. Other than the obviously out-of-whack licensing issues, are there any technical problems that this server may experience by running the wrong edition? And, is there any way to 'upgrade' this instance to the proper version without wiping and reinstalling?

Thanks,

Jon

You generally shouldn't worry about going between point revisions. If the major or minor version change you should make sure try read the release notes before upgrading.

Hi,

OK, so since I see that 11.24 is "coming soon" cPanel is still at 11.23 something and it is therefore safe to turn on STABLE updates?

Will do on the edition thing.

Thanks

You can find the latest version for each platform here:

As of this post, EDGE&CURRENT are the only builds on 11.24.x
