    Default Couple of strange errors this morning (Time-HiRes and system-auth)

    I got a strange email from root today on my server, it says:

    /etc/cron.daily/yum.cron:

    warning: /etc/pam.d/system-auth created as /etc/pam.d/system-auth.rpmnew
    Anyone know what that means?

    Also, while updating to the latest Current cpanel through WHM this morning I've noticed a couple of weird errors/warnings too:

    Getting headers from: (rh.lsu.edu)Red Hat Linux 7.3 - Updates
    Finding updated packages
    Downloading needed headers
    IOError - # 9 - Bad file descriptor
    Fetching CPAN timestamp...Done
    Testing connection speed...(this could take a while)....Done
    Ping:18.296 Testing connection speed to ftp.lug.udel.edu using wget...Warning: removing bad mirror ftp.lug.udel.edu from url list
    test failed...Done
    Three usable mirrors located
    Mirror Check passed for mirror.cc.columbia.edu
    CPAN: Storable loaded ok
    Going to read /home/.cpan/Metadata
    Database was generated on Fri, 20 May 2005 08:55:55 GMT
    Running install for module Time::HiRes
    Running make for J/JH/JHI/Time-HiRes-1.68.tar.gz
    CPAN: Digest::MD5 loaded ok
    CPAN: Compress::Zlib loaded ok

    Checksum mismatch for distribution file. Please investigate.

    Distribution id = J/JH/JHI/Time-HiRes-1.68.tar.gz
    CPAN_USERID JHI (Jarkko Hietaniemi )
    CALLED_FOR Time::HiRes
    CONTAINSMODS Time::HiRes
    MD5_STATUS
    incommandcolor 1
    localfile /home/.cpan/sources/authors/id/J/JH/JHI/Time-HiRes-1.68.tar.gz

    I'd recommend removing
    /home/.cpan/sources/authors/id/J/JH/JHI/Time-HiRes-1.68.tar.gz. Its MD5
    checksum is incorrect. Maybe you have configured your 'urllist' with
    a bad URL. Please check this array with 'o conf urllist', and
    retry.
    I'm absolutely lost as to what any of this means. Can someone please hand me a clue if you have a moment?

    Thanks very much,
    Dave

    EDIT: I'm running
    WHM 10.1.0 cPanel 10.1.0-C76
    RedHat 7.3 i686 - WHM X v3.1.0

    I've got that error to. I've deleted this file Time-HiRes-1.68.tar.gz, and next time script downloaded it again with no error.

    That first messages is information and telling you that yum upgraded that application and stored the configuration file that came with it as whatever.rpmnew which is standard stuff to prevent any configuration settings from being lost - so, informational.

    The second message, which is an error, comes from having a stale cpan tree, you can clean that up with:

    rm -Rf /home/.cpan
    rm -Rf /root/.cpan

    You can then rerun the update using:

    /scripts/rpmup
