Cpanel & Addon domain redirects...

Hello, I've got a question, and this may sound stupid, but i can not seem to get this to work.
When a client of mine add's a add-on domain, say site1.com which is in the folder site1 of their main domains public_html folder, and inside of site1 folder, they have say another folder named content. They setup a redirection from www.site1.com to goto site1.com/content/ but the redirect doesnt work. when you goto site.com it will not goto site.com/content/

Can anyone shed some light on this? I am able to get it to redirect fine, by just putting a index.html folder with a meta tag refresh inside of site1.com main folder (site1) to redirect them to site1.com/content/

Thanks in advance!

If you're in cPanel 11, why not have the add-on domain point to ~/public_html/site1/content ?

I dont know how that would work, because the add-on domain in question is supposed to be a seprate site, and shown by it's own domain name.
