cPanel and CloudLinux
Hello,
we are interesting to deploy our new servers with CloudLinux: CloudLinux: Linux, Linux distribution, web server, Linux performance, web server performance
is Cpanel supported under CloudLinux?
On the the page System Requirements - cPanel Inc. it is not listed.
does anyone have experience with CloudLinux?

In this case, this configuration is unsupported by Cpanel?
Looking closely at the URL Infopro provided, I don't see anything that goes into the realm of unsupported. It looks like they were careful in ensuring their configuration would be compatible with cPanel/WHM and vice-versa.Originally Posted by netbit

Very intresting product. I just read on their site where this can be installed as vm on xenserver. If cPanel does begin supporting this would that include the VPS version of WHM?

You don't need to do any voting, Cpanel already 100% fully supports CloudLinux.
CloudLinux **IS** CentOS!
All they do with CloudLinux is simply take a standard normal CentOS base installation and adds in an extra memory management module to Apache and a kernel modification to support it --- That's it!
In fact anyone who is currently running CentOS can "upgrade" to CloudLinux on their live box by just simply adding the items that I just mentioned which is how CloudLinux is installed.
I have a significant number of hosting provider clients running CloudLinux with Cpanel / WHM and I myself use it on a couple of my own machines and yes it works perfectly fine. Most of those are using VPS.NET because they have a default server base image that already has CloudLinux with Cpanel / WHM you can automatically deploy.
For those that are private server owners with only a few sites or those with high traffic, I would not recommend CloudLinux but for those hosting a larger number of shared sites such as the case of a web hosting provider then CloudLinux helps a lot because it helps it imposes more solid limits between sites and helps to prevent any one shared site from wiping out the resources meant for the other hosting accounts.
To the other question asked .....
Yes -- CloudLinux works with the VPS version of Cpanel / WHM.
This is not 100% correct. We are very close to CentOS, and most people will not see a difference.
But: For cPanel to properly work on CloudLinux server, you would need to change /etc/redhat-release signature to state "CentOS".
You also have to run a script to install extra modules for apache.
Plus, CloudLinux offers several extra controls that just begging to be exposed via cPanel/WHM UI. So, yes -- please, vote
In all other regards -- we are as close to CentOS / RHEL as gets.

Yet, from everyone else's perspective -- it will look just like CentOS/RHEL with some bells and whistles. Which to be honest -- is what we wanted anyway. No point creating new Linux branch incompatible with all others

Yes you can and should have minimal downtime no more than a few minutes or so mainly for reboot and some component recompiling
assuming of course you do all that correctly.
CentOS converts fairly seamlessly and I've gone in both directions and both added and removed CloudLinux on live systems so yes that can be done and usually isn't all terribly that much of an issue ...

what I know about CloudLinux, at least theoretically it should still work
with an nginx frontend because you are still piping to Apache in the
backend and thus would still be loading the CloudLinux apache modules
and then have the operating system mods underneath too.
With Lightspeed, that is one I am not so sure. You might still maybe
make use of the kernel mods but not so certain how things would go with
that or if they even have a Lightspeed module that would make any
better use of any of that like the Apache module that they have for that.
Nginx should work, though we haven't tested it. Yet, I see absolutely no reason for it not to work, and we will support that configuration.
LiteSpeed is fully supported. LiteSpeed Technology built support for LVE into their web server back in April:

Thanks, an unrelated question, but which one should produce lesser load, nginx + apache with fastcgi and cache or litespeed + cache? for shared hosting, 300 accounts. For static nginx and litespeed are on par, is more the dynamic part that worries me.
