cpanel current database list is showing .sql.gz files as databases

Hi,

I've recently noticed that in

cPanel > MySQL databases

that in the list of 'current databases' cPanel appears to be listing the .sql.gz files corresponding to each actual mysql db - AND counting these files towards the total of dbs being used by the hosting account.


This is using cPanel 11.15.0-RELEASE

Has anyone else spotted this? Surely a cPanel bug in need of reporting?

Where do these .sql.gz files reside on your server?

Ah! They reside in /home/mysql. That explains it!

So, you are saying:

1. A user has some files in /home/user named db_name.sql.gz - where db_name is the same as a database owned by the user

2. When accessing the MySQL Database page in X3, which has the URI /frontend/x3/sql/index.html, those backup files are listed as databases

is the above a correct assessment?

What is your full cPanel version number?

In answering your questions:

1. The mysql dir had been moved some time ago (for space reasons) from /var/lib/mysql to /home/mysql. For every database dir in /home/mysql there was a corresponding .sql.gz file.

Example:
/home/mysql/account_primary/
/home/mysql/account_primary.sql.gz

Thinking that maybe it was because the mysql dir was in /home and not /var/lib that was causing this problem, we've just (last night) moved it back to /var/lib/mysql - but this has not fixed the problem.

2. You're 100% correct

So something is causing these .sql.gz files to be written (possibly a backup process?), and something in cPanel is causing these files to be misindentified as actual mysql dbs.

Something is definitely wacky there, possibly related to having MySQL reside in /home rather than /var

Thx. I've just done this (at last!). Problem is still there.

Can I assume that you're now encouraging support via tickets.cpanel.net and not bugzilla.cpanel.net?

The only support channel is tickets.cpanel.net The Bugzilla is for reporting (potential) bugs and feature requests. Anything that would require us to examine the system in question needs filed through tickets.cpanel.net
