Default cpanel down, web sites OK

    Hi,

cPanel and whm have gone down all of a sudden, however all the hosted sites are still up and function fine.

When trying to access cPanel through a browser, one gets:
    Failed to Connect
The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.idealista.com.au:2082.

It seems this occured at random. All I can think is that I had to force close putty as it froze whilst during an ssh session.

Any idea how to fix? or what could have caused this?

Tried restarting the cPanel service, see output below:

    root@syd1-0047dsb [/var/lib/pgsql/data]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/cpanel restart
    Stopping tailwatchd:
    !!
    ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION

Cpanel::TailWatch::Eximstats appears to have unprocessed SQL in /var/cpanel/sql/eximstats.sql.

When mysql is unable to execute a query they are logged for processing later.

Eventually these SQL files may be handled automatically and this message will not appear.

In the meantime you can execute the queries as root with something like this:

    mv /var/cpanel/sql/eximstats.sql /var/cpanel/sql/eximstats.sql.tmp_working_copy
    /usr/local/cpanel/libexec/tailwatchd --restart
    mysql eximstats < /var/cpanel/sql/eximstats.sql.tmp_working_copy

Once you are sure all is well you can remove /var/cpanel/sql/eximstats.sql.tmp_working_copy

Have you tried eximup? If that doesn't fix the issue try an upcp --force and see whether it fixes the issues.

As mentioned in the Warning message you will need to fire the commands below by logging in to the server via SSH

    root@server [~]# mv /var/cpanel/sql/eximstats.sql /var/cpanel/sql/eximstats.sql.tmp_working_copy
    root@server [~]# /usr/local/cpanel/libexec/tailwatchd --restart
    root@server [~]# mysql eximstats < /var/cpanel/sql/eximstats.sql.tmp_working_copy
    root@server [~]# /etc/init.d/cpanel restart

Try stopping the cPanel service on the server and then start it again (no the restart, stop and then start again)..
Also, make sure the cPanel/WHM ports are added in the server firewall. OR try stopping the firewall on the server to check if cPanel/WHM works after stopping the firewall.

well, if you are not receiving the errors as mentioned above try executing /scripts/upcp --force
Did you checked the cPanel error logs on the server ?

    Default nothing

OK so the cPanel error log has nothing in it at all.
    have run:
    upcp --force

    and still can't access.

Additionally, netstat shows that port 2082 is listening.
Still can't access with iptables and selinux disabled.

    cpanel status is:
    root@syd1-0047dsb [/etc/selinux]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/cpanel status
    cpsrvd (pid 10568) is running...
    entropychat is stopped
    melange is stopped
    stunnel is stopped
    interchange is stopped
    qrunner is stopped

    Any suggestions?

yes, the status shows OK.. I would suggest you to open a ticket at cPanel and ask them as to what is the issue...

You can even PM me the server details to check...

    Default getting there

    Cheers all for your suggestions.

Looks like its some kind of firewall at our hosting providers end.

Netstat and IP tables definately show the server is accepting connections to the required ports, however a port scan from outside of the servers network shows its closed.

    Thanks again all.
