cPanel hates PHP

Hi, I have just recently updated my server (cPanel, Server software, Apache etc) and for some reason, the Edit feature which I use for about 4 hours a day minimum, no longer likes PHP.

The only reason why I presume this is the fact it was working perfectly well before the update, and now it appears on every PHP file I open when using the Edit feature in the File manager X3.

it says:

"You are not using a utf-8 language file. You should not save utf-8 data or you will get corrupted results. Click here to change your language file."

Well, it saves fine and its how I have always coded it in ISO-8859-1 (2 years). It doesnt do it to any other file I have tested it on, only PHP. Even the most basic php file it does it.

Any thoughts cPanel tech guys?

When I create a new file using the File Manager and open it with Edit, it still says it even though it is blank!

Have you tried using the legacy editor and vi through shell?

Yeah, just tried it... does the same thing in the Legacy File Manager.

The File Editor has always hated PHP files. It's a good thing that it's not letting you open PHP files now because it has always just corrupted them.

I would have a PHP file with some contents but after I would save it, all of the PHP contents would be gone! So it's fortunate that it's protecting you from opening them.

No, it opens fine... it also saves fine. thats the point of this topic... for some reason it comes up with an error, yet... there is no error

I'm writing in the right character encoding, it opens and saves normally... like it always has. but for some reason, possibly a bug in the system?? it says to use UTF-8, i dont want to... im using the same method i always have.

Please fix this cPanel tech guys!

It's not an error. It's warning you that you are using an ISO language encoding file. Attempting to save Unicode characters when using an ISO language encoding file will result in corrupted data.

To remove the warning, change your language encoding to english-UTF8 with the following steps:

1. Login to cPanel
2. Click the icon labeled "Change Language"
3. From the "Set Language to" drop down, select english-UTF8
4. Click Change

Now, when you edit files, the warning about unicode will not display. As a note: the only ISO encoded language provided by cPanel is English. All the other languages use utf8
